About The Bass Shed
Art. Craft. Culture. For Every Bassist.
A Space Built by Bassists, for Bassists
The Bass Shed was created by bassist and educator Ryan Roberts to contribute something new to both the bass guitar and double bass communities — a space where players can grow, connect, and give back through the shared language of music.
What began as a podcast has evolved into a boutique platform dedicated to the full experience of being a bassist.
Here, artistry meets education, and culture meets community — blending inspiration, information, and impact under one roof.
Whether you play upright or electric, The Bass Shed is designed to help you deepen your musicianship, refine your craft, and connect with a global community of low-end thinkers and groove makers.
Most platforms focus on either how to play or who plays.
The Bass Shed does both.
What Makes The Bass Shed Different
It’s where lessons, stories, and conversations intersect — honoring the technical craft of the instrument while exploring the artists, history, and culture that shape it.
This isn’t just a lesson site.
And it isn’t just a podcast.
It’s a connected ecosystem designed to help you:
Develop real time feel
Strengthen your musical voice
Understand the lineage of the instrument
Build consistency in your practice
Think like a musician, not just a technician
Here, education and inspiration aren’t separate tracks.
They reinforce each other.
Because becoming a complete bassist requires more than information —
it requires perspective.
The Three Pillars of The Bass Shed
The Bass Shed is built on three connected pillars — each serving a different role in the ecosystem, but all working toward the same goal: deeper musicianship and meaningful impact.
🎓 The Bass Shed Academy (Nonprofit
The educational heart behind the mission.
The Bass Shed Academy is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to advancing music education and expanding creative access for youth. Through lessons, transcriptions, workshops, scholarships, and outreach programming, the Academy supports both bass guitarists and double bassists at every stage of development.
Every membership and purchase helps fund youth music education initiatives throughout Southern California.
Where The Bass Shed develops players,
The Academy develops opportunity.
🎧 The Bass Shed Podcast
The cultural voice of the platform.
The podcast features in-depth conversations with bassists, builders, producers, and artists across genres — exploring tone, time feel, career longevity, philosophy, and the craft behind the music.
Full episodes are free and available to everyone.
Members unlock Podcast Extras and searchable archives for deeper exploration.
⚒️ The Bass Shed Platform
The practical engine for growth.
This is where lessons, transcriptions, Listening Room breakdowns, Shed Mindset articles, LowDown gear reviews, Bass Bites, and The Shed Studio practice tools live.
It’s designed to help you turn inspiration into implementation — bridging knowledge and application so your playing evolves with intention.
Together, these pillars create more than a website.
They form a unified low-end community grounded in artistry, education, and service.
