About Ryan Roberts
Ryan Roberts is a bassist, educator, composer, and founder of The Bass Shed and The Bass Shed Academy, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit advancing music education and expanding creative access through community programs and learning initiatives.
As A Bassist
Ryan has recorded and performed with Geoff Emerick — Grammy-winning engineer for The Beatles, Elvis Costello, and Paul McCartney; Segal Huérédia — Latin Grammy–recognized arranger and producer; and Top Dawg Entertainment, home to Kendrick Lamar and SZA.
He has also performed live with Diane Warren at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards and with 16-time Grammy Award–winning producer and composer David Foster.
Bandleader & Composer
Ryan has released two albums:
Smile (2021) — original compositions and arrangements of music by Zane Musa, along with Charlie Chaplin’s “Smile.”
Echoes of Change (2026) — a thematic recording project with acclaimed jazz vocalist Lia Booth exploring societal and personal freedom.
He also arranged music for the award-winning short film Funky Butt and composed the feature-length double bass soundtrack for The Show Can’t Go On.
Educator & Philosophy
Ryan serves as a bass and rhythm section coach in Southern California schools and is a contributor to Bass Magazine Online.
He believes:
True musicianship is cultivated through community, study, and reverence for the historical icons who shaped the music.
Through The Bass Shed, he continues building a connected low-end community grounded in artistry, education, and service.
